After hearing from Dr. Brad Miller about Runestone Academy, it was a bit inspirational to hear about the process that he went through in order for broke college students such as myself to learn how to code. I legit couldn't find any other high-quality OOP textbook that demonstrates the ways of code.
As a result of hearing from Dr. Miller, I decided to conduct a little research to see if there exists any sort of group chat for Runestone Academy, and to my pleasant surprise, there is a discord that I immediately joined. From what it seems like, the channels are a bit more active than I anticipated them to be, but not all of them are super active. The one that I find to be the most active (which makes sense) is the instructors one.
Since some members of the discord aren't tied to Runestone Academy, and it is an OOP, it makes sense that this discord should be inclusive and as an option for communication so that anyone who wants to become a part of Runestone may do so easily. I'm sure Runestone isn't the only OOP that has a discord or an inclusive form of communication, and I consider it a privilege to be included in it.
What excites me the most about contributing is knowing that I'll be doing this to uplift and educate less experienced computer science minds because I was in their shoes at some point and it was so nice to be able to have free access to textbooks that I knew would help me and others grow as a computer scientist.
